  • The 30-year-old suffered a knock during Sivasspor’s Turkish league opener against Samsunspor
  • He said he hopes to return to the squad for the forthcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers

Ahmed Musa hopes to return to the national team soon again after missing out on the forthcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Sao Tome and Principe.

Nigeria take on the Falcons in a dead-rubber encounter, and Jose Peseiro did not include the injured Musa among the 25-man squad to prosecute the encounter slated for Uyo.

It was gathered that the 30-year-old suffered a knock during Sivasspor’s Turkish league opener against Samsunspor on August 8.

Despite his absence, Musa believes the Super Eagles will get the job done on Sunday to wrap up a successful AFCON qualifying campaign.

He told Punch:

“We all know the importance of the game, so we are not going to take that easy because we know the opponents.
“We are playing at home. Insha Allah, we are going to win the game and focus more on the World Cup qualifiers. We know what Nigerians always want.”

Meanwhile, the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign will begin in November, with Nigeria drawn in Group C alongside Benin, Lesotho, Rwanda, South Africa and Zimbabwe.

Nigeria host Lesotho on Match Day 1, and Musa disclosed that he hopes to return for the qualifiers.

He added:

“I hope to be back soon for the World Cup qualifiers.
“It’s my dream to play in another World Cup. I believe we have a squad that is equally determined to qualify."

In January 2022, the former CSKA Moscow forward stated that the next AFCON tournament would be his last Nations Cup for the national team.

He told BBC Sport:

“It’s something that I have really thought about and I feel blessed to say this (2022 AFCON) will be my final Nations Cup with Nigeria.
“The players are fully aware of my plans and we have a squad good enough to win.”

Musa flaunts Mercedes Benz S63 AMG

Sports Brief earlier reported Ahmed Musa splashed cash on an exotic Mercedes Benz S63 AMG, adding it to his collection of rides.

The Sivasspor of Turkey forward has been modest in public, but the ride seems to be one of his favourites.

He took to his Facebook Page to share a photo of himself in the ride as his followers took to the comment section to celebrate him.
