Leicester City winger, Abdul Fatawu Issahaku will miss Ghana's Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against the Central African Republic after reportedly failing to make it to Kumasi due to bad weather.

The 18-year-old was handed a late invite following an injury to KRC Genk forward, Joseph Paintsil.

Issahaku arrived in Accra on Wednesday and was expected to fly to Kumasi on Thursday morning to join the rest of his national teammates.

However, according to Citi Sports, the aircraft carrying the player had to return to the Kotoka International Airport after failing to land due to poor visibility.

The winger will therefore miss the crucial game against the CAR but will likely be available for the international friendly against Liberia on September 12.

During a pre-match presser earlier this week, coach Chris Hughton revealed Issahaku would join the Black Stars squad and had hoped the winger would join the team in Kumasi.

"He has just joined Leicester City, which is a wonderful move for him coming from Portugal where he didn’t play so much. Of course, he was involved with the [under-23 side] in Morocco in the summer, played all three games and I think it’s a good move for him and one that will develop his career," the Irish manager said, as quoted by the Ghana FA's official website.

The Sporting Lisbon-owned player was making a return to the Ghanaian national team for the first time since the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

In a previous article, Sports Brief reported on Issahaku completing his loan move to Leicester City during the summer transfer window.

The 18-year-old was unable to hide his excitement at joining the Foxes from Portuguese giants, Sporting Lisbon on the transfer deadline day.

Issahaku made his debut for the club in their English Championship clash against Hull City on Saturday, coming close to scoring on debut.
