Romelu Lukaku is showing Chelsea what they are missing after they sent him out on loan for the second time since he re-joined the club for £97.5m in 2021.

The relationship between the club and the player became chaotic just four months into his record move after an unfortunate interview which was taken in bad light by Thomas Tuchel.

He spent last season on loan at Inter Milan but opted against joining them permanently this summer, and despite interest from Juventus, he chose Rome as his next destination.

As reported by Roma Press, director Tiago Pinto confirmed that he received messages from supporters against the move and also revealed that Mourinho was influential in convincing the striker.

Lukaku scores brilliant goal in training

The 30-year-old has linked up with the Belgium national team for the September games of the Euro 2024 qualifying series against Azerbaijan and Estonia.

As seen in a video shared on Instagram by Lukaku and recirculated on X (formerly Twitter) by The Secret Scout, the striker displayed quick feet to sit a teammate down before blasting a right-footed shot into the net.

There were suggestions that he could have been reintegrated into Mauricio Pochettino's team if he could not seal a move away from Stamford Bridge this summer, an idea the manager was open to.

According to ESPN UK, the Blues are struggling in front of goal this season, having missed all 11 big chances they created, with Nicolas Jackson and Raheem Sterling expected to lead the team in getting the goals.

Mourinho's old comments on Lukaku

Sports Brief also reported on Jose Mourinho's old comments on Lukaku after it emerged that the Belgian striker had accepted the Italian capital as his next destination.

Mourinho briefly managed the striker at Chelsea and then at Manchester United. He made a disparity between the two times and claimed that despite becoming a man, there is still a kid in the man who needs love.
