Black Stars midfielder, Kamal Sowah has joined Belgium topflight side Standard Liege in the summer transfer window.

The 23-year-old signed a season-long loan deal with Standard Liege, who also have the option of making the move a permanent one at the end of the campaign.

Sowah was excluded from Ghana's squad for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against the Central African Republic to seal his move.

"Standard de Liège, Club Brugge and Kamal SOWAH have reached an agreement: the Ghanaian offensive midfielder will be loaned to our club this season (with purchase option)," wrote the club on their official website, confirming Sowah's arrival.

The former Leicester City player will reunite with ex-manager Carl Hoefkens at Standard Liege. The duo worked together at Club Brugge, with Hoefkens playing a key role in Sowah's career at his parent club.

"Kamal will strengthen our offensive sector and sharpen competition within our group. His experience in the Belgian competition, his technical and physical qualities, his speed and his depth will be additional assets for our team," said Standard Liege Director of Football, Fergal Harkin.

Sowah started his career in Europe with Leicester City before spending time on loan at OH Leuven. He joined Club Brugge in 2021, as reported by transfermarkt.

Kamal Sowah scores first UCL goal

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Kamal Sowah netted his maiden goal in the UEFA Champions League to help Club Brugge to victory against 2005 European champions Porto at the Estadio do Dragao.

The 22-year-old scored Club Brugge's second goal of the game as the Belgium champions thrashed Porto 4-0 in Portugal.

In a video posted on social media, the versatile player pounced on Ferran Jutgla's pass to cleverly slot home for the visitors.

Club Brugge announces signing of Sowah

In an earlier report, Sports Brief reported that Belgian side Club Brugge has announced the signing of Ghanaian midfielder Kamal Sowah with a video.

The club announced that Sowah has signed a four-year contract after agreeing to a deal with English club Leicester City.

The 21-year old will be making a return to the Belgian top flight after spending three and a half years with OH Leuven.
