Sergio Ramos stole the headlines when his return to his boyhood club Sevilla was announced amid ongoing transfer talks linking him to a potential move to the Middle East.
The 37-year-old defender left Paris Saint-Germain following the expiration of his contract, and was not short of transfer suitors following reports that he turned down offers from Turkish giants Besiktas and Galatasaray.
Ramos was heavily linked to Saudi Pro League club Al-Ittihad, according to reports from ESPN. However, he has now made a surprise return to Sevilla, a side he left to join Real Madrid in quite a controversial manner in the summer of 2005.
Upon the announcement of the defender’s return to the Andalusian club, Sevilla posted a video which was shared to the club’s official Twitter page, in which Ramos sent his apologies to fans of Sevilla and further stated his reason for returning to the club.

The Sevilla academy graduate stated in the video:
"Hello Sevillistas.
"Today is a very special day for me, very exciting. I’m finally coming home. I’m looking forward to that moment, to wear this shirt again and put this crest back on my chest.
"It has been 18 years since I left. I think I have made mistakes and I want to take this opportunity to apologise to any Sevillista who may have felt offended by gestures I may have made at the time."
Ramos also stated his ambition alongside the reasons behind his return to the La Liga club.

Football"We are all in the same boat and we are all part of the same family. I’ve come to join in, to row in the same direction, and I’m looking forward to stepping foot in the Sánchez-Pizjuán and meeting you all again.
"It [his return] was a debt I owed to myself, to my family, to my grandfather, to my father. I hope to see you very soon. I come here to give my all and to achieve the objectives with the team."
Following the completion of his transfer, Ramos will hope to propel Sevilla, who are currently rock bottom in this season’s La Liga standings, to their first victory when they welcome Las Palmas to the Sanchez Pizjuan after the international break.
On the part of Sevilla, the iconic defender could be just the perfect piece of the defensive puzzle needed by coach Jose Luis Mendilibar, considering the club's defensive frailties.
