FootballFrance Legend Slams Neymar, Messi, Calls Them ‘Cry Babies’ for PSG Comments
- Robert Pires has called out Neymar and Lionel Messi
- Neymar, in a recent interview, claimed he experienced "hell" at PSG alongside Messi
- But the 1998 FIFA World Cup winner is unimpressed by the Brazilian's claims
French football legend Robert Pires has strongly criticized Neymar Jr. and Lionel Messi, labelling them as overly sensitive individuals in response to the Brazilian's recent comments about Paris Saint-Germain.
Neymar, who spent six seasons with PSG, characterized his stint with the French champions as "hell" due to what he perceived as unfair treatment from the club's fanbase, directed not only at him but also at his close friend Messi.
Both Neymar and Messi, former teammates at Barcelona as well, have since moved on from PSG, with the 31-year-old signing a lucrative deal with Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia and Messi opting for Major League Soccer with David Beckham's Inter Miami.
Pires expressed his disappointment with Neymar's assessment of his time at PSG, suggesting that in the world of football, both criticism and praise are par for the course, and the South American duo should have taken it in their stride.
“I call that being cry-babies“, the 1998 World Cup winner said on the Canal Football Club TV show as quoted by GFFN.
“Being a professional football player means withstanding the pressure. Sometimes, when you play well, you’re glad to receive praise. When you don’t… Well, that’s part of the game.”
Taking it a step further, the ex-Arsenal winger drew from his own experiences handling pressure during his tenure with the Gunners to offer insight into how Messi and Neymar could have managed the situation better.
“We have all been criticized. When I joined Arsenal, I had to replace Marc Overmars, and they said I was hopeless. I kept my mouth shut, kept working, and it eventually paid off.“
