He set the Premier League alight during his stint with Manchester United, scoring seven goals in the English top flight in the 2020-21 season.

Surprisingly, the Englishman did not choose the former Manchester United great with his answer, opting to go with the Argentine legend instead, per Manutd.com.

Greenwood gave a detailed response to the question, saying:

“For me, it’s always got to be Messi. For me, he’s just on another planet. Ronaldo is obviously amazing, a physical, great athletic footballer. But to do what Messi does at his size, what he’s done for Barcelona and winning that trophy for Argentina (Copa America), he is just on another level.”

Greenwood's promising career gets derailed

Greenwood’s football career went down the drain when assault charges were filed against him in January 2022.

Those same criminal charges were dropped earlier this year after the withdrawal of key witnesses in the case and new material coming to light.

He released a statement last month about the allegations thrown against him. The Englishman accepted that he "had made mistakes" and took his "share of responsibility for the situations which led to the social media post".

He was adamant, however, that he did not do the things he was accused of.

Manchester United thought long and hard about whether they would bring Greenwood back into their squad.

After a long deliberation, the club decided that Greenwood would not continue his career at Manchester United.

The embattled striker later joined Getafe on loan, with the Spanish club confirming Greenwood’s arrival last Friday, per ESPN.

Sports Brief reported that a domestic abuse charity in Spain has formally requested Getafe to reconsider their decision to sign the former United player.

Ana Bella Foundation is reported to have called out the club for 'setting a terrible example' by bringing Greenwood to Getafe.
