  • Napoli will face Real Madrid in the 2023/2024 Champions League group stage
  • The Italian champions have been drawn in Group C alongside the most successful club in the competition
  • The Partenopei will bank their hopes on prolific forward Victor Osimhen

Victor Osimhen will be heading to the Spanish capital after Napoli were drawn with record holders Real Madrid in the soon-to-start UEFA Champions League group stages.

In the company of Real Madrid, the prolific Nigerian striker will lead the charge for his team against Portugal's Braga and Champions League newcomers Union Berlin.

Osimhen's performance will be closely watched, especially when Napoli faces a star-studded Madrid side that is known for possessing arguably the world's best midfield, per Soccernet.ng.

Napoli, who won the Italian Serie A title for the first time in 33 years last season, are expected to play second-fiddle to the La Liga giants, who last won the competition in 2022, according to Football Espana.

But Luis Castro's men will take inspiration from last season, in which the Partenopei reached the Champions League quarter-finals, and similar expectations are set for their performance this season, if not higher.

Here is the draw in full:

Group A - Bayern Munich, Manchester United, Copenhagen, Galatasaray

Group B - Sevilla, Arsenal, PSV Eindhoven, Lens

Group C - Napoli, Real Madrid, Braga, Union Berlin

Group D - Benfica, Inter Milan, Salzburg, Real Sociedad

Group E - Feyenoord, Atletico Madrid, Lazio, Celtic

Group F - Paris Saint-Germain , Borussia Dortmund, AC Milan, Newcastle United

Group G - Manchester City, RB Leipzig, Red Star Belgrade, Young Boys

Group H - Barcelona, Porto, Shakhtar Donetsk, Royal Antwerp

Sports Brief also covered Carlo Ancelotti's recent remarks regarding the transfer speculations swirling around Napoli's forward, Victor Osimhen, and a possible transfer to Real Madrid.

Osimhen, a key figure in ending Napoli's 33-year Italian Serie A title drought, was rumoured to be in contention to replace Karim Benzema at Madrid, who had departed for Saudi Pro League champions Al-Ittihad.

When asked about the potential acquisition of Osimhen to fill the void left by Benzema, Ancelotti expressed his admiration for the former LOSC Lille centre forward, but swiftly dismissed the links.
