He has captivated audiences across the country with his play, giving the sport of soccer a major boost in America.
Sports Brief compares the Argentine star’s performances during this period to Cristiano Ronaldo’s first 10 games with Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia.
Messi and Ronaldo’s records
Messi faced a gargantuan task when he joined Inter Miami last July. The Herons had the worst record in the MLS, recording just 18 points in 22 matches played.
The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner helped transform the team, with the Herons going unbeaten in 10 matches since his arrival.
They recorded nine wins and one draw during that span, with those nine victories coming in Messi’s first nine matches with the club.
Seven of those wins came in their highly successful Leagues Cup run, which culminated in the team’s first-ever championship.
Their nine-game winning streak came to an end on Wednesday when Nashville SC held them to a goalless draw, per Yahoo Sports.
Ronaldo, on the other hand, recorded seven wins, one draw, and two losses in his first 10 games with Al-Nassr.
Six of those victories came in the Saudi Pro League. Al-Nassr recorded wins against Al Ittifaq, Al Wehda, Al Taawon, Damak, Al Batin, and Abha in the league during this period.
Both of Al-Nassr’s losses with Ronaldo in their lineup came against Al Ittihad. The first defeat came in the Super Cup, and the other loss happened in the Saudi Pro League.
