Lionel Messi did not do it, at least that's what the league claimed after he was alleged to have broken a rule subsequent to scoring on his Major League Soccer debut for Inter Miami.
Messi's first eight games were in the cup competitions, where he won a trophy, the Leagues Cup and he was in the final of the US Open Cup before playing a league game.
He finally made his league debut against New York Red Bulls in a 2-0 win, coming off the bench to score a beautiful team goal he initiated and finished.
According to Express UK, fans were disappointed Gerardo Martino started him on the bench, but his performance when he came on appeased the angry fans.
MLS clear Messi of wrongdoing
It was alleged that Messi broke a league rule that all players must grant interviews to the media after each game, as he was not spotted in the mixed zone after his first league game.
As reported by Miami Herald, the league has issued a statement to clarify the allegations, claiming it was a misunderstanding and that the World Cup winner did not breach any policy.
“There was a misunderstanding regarding Lionel Messi’s media access. He has not violated any guidelines for his media availability in Major League Soccer,” the statement reads.
The 36-year-old is not an English speaker and has never been heard speaking the language. He is in the process of learning, but his new teammates claim he understands when they speak, and he responds.

Sports Brief reported that the referee stopped Messi's illegal move after he was caught adjusting the ball's position before taking a freekick during the 0-0 draw with Nashville SC.
It was not the first time the former Barcelona captain had done this; he attempted the same against FC Dallas on August 7, and luckily, he wasn't caught by the referee, and he scored the freekick.
