Lionel Messi is one of football's greatest stars ever and can claim to be one of the best goalscorers, having scored over 800 goals for both club and country.

He is currently delighting American fans with his performances for Inter Miami, having moved to the club after running down his Paris Saint-Germain contract.

His catalogue of goals is extensive, ranging from solo runs to freekicks to shots from outside the box; he has it all. According to Planet Football, a Reddit fan watched it all and picked the best five.

All unsurprisingly were he scored at FC Barcelona, where he spent most of his career.

1. Getafe 2007

The goal was voted Barcelona's greatest goal in a fan poll in 2019. 19-year-old Messi embarked on a solo run from halfway against Getafe in 2006/07 Copa del Rey and dribbled past four defenders and the goalkeeper before slotting home with his right foot.

2. Real Madrid 2011

19-year-old Messi scored a hat-trick in the El Clasico, but his goal against Madrid in the semi-final of the UEFA Champions League in 2011 ranks highest. He took the ball off the feet of Sergio Busquets and evaded four players before scoring, again with his right foot.

3. Athletic Bilbao 2013

Against Bilbao, he evaded four challenges before hitting a low shot that beat the goalkeeper.

4. Bayern Munich 2015

Another one in the semi-final of the Champions League against a top opponent. Messi wrongfooted Jerome Boateng, and the defender fell in an awkwardly funny manner before chipping the on-rushing Manuel Neuer with his right foot.

5. Athletic Bilbao 2015

According to Sportskeeda, the goal was described as "scientifically impossible". Messi evaded four defenders and hit the ball with power and pace in the Copa del Rey final to hand Barcelona the victory in 2015.

6 iconic Lionel Messi celebrations

Sports Brief analysed the top 6 Lionel Messi celebrations after he began to copy celebrations from Marvel Studio movies as selected by his children when he scored home goals for Inter Miami.

The shirt pose at the Santiago Bernabeu after scoring a late winner against Real Madrid ranks as the most iconic, while the 2009 Champions League final goal celebration against Manchester United was also listed.
