  • The Portuguese icon’s brace sees him move clear as the league’s top scorer

Al-Nassr continued their early season resurgence following a statement win against Saudi giant Al-Shabab.

Luis Castro’s men, inspired by Cristiano Ronaldo, raced into a first-half lead following a brace and an assist from their captain.

Ronaldo rattled the net twice from the penalty spot before teeing up Sadio Mane with a sublime assist to exert their early dominance in their match-round four tie of the new season.

The Arab Club Cup Champions would subsequently hit the woodwork from the penalty spot. They wrapped up their dominant display with another goal from Sultan Al-Ghannam, who scored the final goal in the 80th minute.

The win saw the Riyadh-based club climb to sixth on the table, and was inspired by the Portuguese captain.

Ronaldo tops goalscorer chart

The former Real Madrid forward further extended his tally to 849 as football’s all-time top scorer, according to data provided by Whoscored. He also saw his stellar display move him past Al-Hilal Brazilian forward Malcom as the league’s top scorer, as reported by ESPN.

Ronaldo has so far found the net five times in the two league games he has played this season.

The 38-year-old will hope his impressive form, coupled with his newly found partnership with Sengalese’s Sadio Mane, can propel his side to their first league title since the 2018/19 season.

Ronaldo and his team will now shift their focus to Saturday’s fixture away at Al-Hazem.

Ronaldo gives penalty to teammate

Sports Brief also reported on Ronaldo giving up a penalty in a beautifully selfless gesture that has gained praise across social media platforms.

The Portuguese veteran had already scored twice for Al-Nassr and had also provided one assist when his team was awarded a penalty in the second half.

Ronaldo - who usually takes kicks from the spot - instead gave the ball to Abdulrahman Abdullah Ghareeb so he might record his first goal this season.
