Matheus Nunes is doing all it takes to seal a dream move to Manchester City.
He has gone on strike at Wolves, with the 25-year-old having stopped training in a bid to force through a switch to the reigning Premier League champs.
City’s opening bid of around £47 million for Nunes was rejected by Wolves, who are holding out for more than £60m for their prized midfielder.
City look to strengthen midfield
City are desperate to bolster their midfield after losing Belgian star Kevin De Bruyne for about four months due to a hamstring injury.
They decided to target Nunes after their planned move for Lucas Paquetá collapsed.
They were close to buying the West Ham star, but the Football Association’s investigation of the Brazilian’s alleged betting breach this year put a halt to their plans, per Sky Sports.
City target Nunes ahead of deadline
Wolves signed Nunes from Sporting in a club-record deal worth £42 million, and they would want to get more than what they paid last summer.
The 25-year-old is expected to face disciplinary action from Wolves after his no-show at the team’s training session.
Wolves, who are set to face Blackpool in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night, have Nunes under contract until 2027, so they are in no rush to sell him to Manchester City.
The pressure now is on City to make a bid that will satisfy Wolves before the transfer deadline.
Wolves plan to reintegrate Nunes into their first-team squad should the treble winners fail to meet their valuation with their second bid, per The Guardian.
