  • The Joao Felix transfer saga is turning out to be longer than expected
  • The forward reportedly wants to leave the club, but a transfer is not close
  • Barcelona and Saudi Arasbia's Al-Hilal have been linked with the Portuguese

Joao Felix is one of the names that has dominated the summer transfer window. The Atletico Madrid forward has been linked with a move to Barcelona and Saudi Arabia.

He recently said he wants to play for Barcelona, and multiple reports indicate that he could move to the Saudi Pro League if a transfer for the Catalan giants fails.

Felix is still under contract with Atletico until 2027 but has not played this season, reportedly due to his deteriorating relationship with Atletico boss Diego Simeone.

The 23-year-old spent the second half of the 2022/23 season at Chelsea and showed flashes of brilliance. He scored four goals in 20 appearances, but the Blues did not seek a permanent deal.

He was an unused substitute in Atletico'as first match of the season against Granada and was not in the squad in their last match against Real Betis. Simeone recently revealed Felix has an injury.

“Joao Felix? I always say the best question is to ask him...He's in the squad, and we've been training with him since the pre-season began. He didn't take part in the friendlies due to an injury that kept him out of the first two," via Goal.

Joao Felix to Saudi Arabia?

According to Barca Universal, Xavi gave his approval for Barcelona to sign Felix on a loan deal. However, things may become complicated as Saudi Pro League clubs are attempting to secure his signature.

According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Felix will be open to a move to Saudi Arabia if a transfer to Barcelona does not materialize.

Barcelona's financial woes mean they have to tread carefully before signing Felix. He remains the 5th most expensive footballer ever.

Earlier this month, Romano reported that Al-Hilal were ready to offer Felix a 1-year loan deal. Al-Hilal recently signed Neymar, their latest star from a European club. The Saudi Pro League transfer window closes on September 20th, so a deal can still happen.

Felix’s condition to terminate contract

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Atletico Madrid had dismissed Joao Felix’s attempt to terminate his contract and force a move away from the Spanish club this summer.

The Portugal youngster received a hostile reception at the Wanda Metropolitano in Atletico Madrid’s La Liga season-opener against Granada, where the home fans booed him.

Atletico, however, has responded to the 23-year-old forward, claiming he will need to buy out his contract if he is desperate to leave the club this summer after describing his termination request as a joke.
