Barcelona have agreed to pay 100 percent of Joao Felix’s wages as the Catalan club pushes to sign the disgruntled Portuguese star from La Liga rivals Atletico Madrid this summer.
The Portuguese attacking midfielder has previously stated that he wishes to leave Atletico Madrid before the transfer season shuts, and the club does not appear to be interested in keeping him.
According to Football Espana, both Atletico Madrid and Joao Felix want the move to happen, and the Catalan giants, battling financial difficulties, have agreed to pay Felix’s wages in full as they try to sign him on loan.
The reigning La Liga champions are also pushing to have a potential purchase option included in the deal for Felix, as manager Xavi Hernandes has finally given his backing for the club to sign the attacking midfielder.
Barcelona hopes to bring in Felix in time following the injury suffered by Spanish midfielder Pedri, who is set to miss eight weeks of action.
Atletico confirm Felix’s exit wishes
Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has confirmed Joao Felix wants to leave the club this summer, with Barcelona keen on signing the Portuguese attacking midfielder, 90MIN reports.
The 23-year-old did not play a single minute in pre-season with Atletico Madrid and has been benched in the club’s first two La Liga games of the season as Rojiblanos tries to sell him off as quickly as possible.
While Atletico would prefer a permanent sale worth close to the €126mil they paid Benfica for Felix in 2019, another loan transfer is inevitable this season.

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Barcelona are eager to bring Joao Felix on board this summer and have intensified their negotiations with Atletico Madrid for the wantaway forward.
The Portuguese star is keen to exit Atletico, and Los Rojiblancos are keen to remove his wages, with him out of the starting team, as Barcelona has shown serious interest in his signature.
Barcelona are seeking to get Felix on a season-long loan that will require the Catalan club to pay a fee €8mil for the 23-year-old forward.
