The transfer of Cristiano Ronaldo to Saudi Pro League club Al-Nassr has set off a chain reaction with significant implications.
Since the Portuguese star's transfer to the Middle East, a number of Europe’s elite stars have since completed their move to the Saudi League, with the standout being that of 31-year-old Brazilian winger Neymar Jr.
The Saudi League transfer fever, which has since seen Spanish La Liga’s franchise player Karim Benzema swooped by Al-Ittihad, has its sight set on two veterans of the Spanish league, according to reports.
Saudi League eyes La Liga veterans
Carlo Ancelotti’s side, which has struggled to adjust to life following the departure of Karim Benzema, could be set to lose another of its veterans to the Saudi League.
Speaking to Radio Marca, FIFA agent Marco Kirdemir said:
“Al-Hilal and Al-Ittihad want Kroos for this same season. They will also go for Lewandowski; the Saudis like him a lot. There will be a bomb.”
The agent goes on to provide reassurance that the final days of the transfer window will witness a significant departure from La Liga.
If not Toni Kroos from Real Madrid, then the clubs might manage to secure Robert Lewandowski from their arch-rivals, Barcelona.
This development comes as a surprise, given that Kroos had previously expressed his thoughts on Instagram, deeming the transfer of La Liga’s most promising prospect, Gabri Viega, to Saudi club Al-Ahli, as “Embarrassing.”
Coincidentally, Real Madrid’s coach has recently refuted speculations regarding any potential exits for his players during a press conference.
Equally, Barcelona have recently transferred midfielder, Franck Kessie, to Saudi club Al Ahli. Both clubs are undoubtedly determined to utilize every available means to fend off interest from these competing clubs.
