- Mbappe and Paris Saint-Germain were at loggerheads all summer long
Real Madrid's pursuit of Kylian Mbappe appears to be over after their manager Carlo Ancelotti ruled it out, at least this summer.
The Paris Saint-Germain superstar was in a high-profile contract standoff with the French champions but has returned to training, meaning a move away this summer may not happen.
The French forward has been linked heavily with a move to Real Madrid this summer and was omitted from the club's pre-season tour of Japan and South Korea last month after he reportedly told the club he was planning on leaving as a free agent next summer.
The Ligue 1 champions accepted a world-record €300m offer for the 24-year-old from Al-Hilal last month, but the World Cup winner was not interested in moving to Saudi Arabia, per Sky Sports. Sky Sports also reports that he is in contract talks with PSG and could end up signing a new deal with the club.
He returned to first-team training over a week ago and even scored in his first appearance of the season, a 1-1 draw at Toulouse last weekend.
Ancelotti rules out Mbappe signing
Speaking ahead of their match against Celta Vigo, Ancelotti said the club will not be signing Mbappe this summer.
"No, I rule that out. 100% no. It's over, I discard any new signing before the market closes — the squad is closed," via Football Espana.
The Mbappe saga is one of the longest sagas in European football that lasted for months. Mbappe could still sign for Madrid next summer as he looks to win the coveted Champions League trophy.
Jude Bellingham is Madrid's biggest signing this summer and has made a phenomenal start to the season.
