1. Marta Cox vs. France

Marta Cox scored Panama's first-ever goal in the Women's World Cup, and it was a thing of beauty.

She curled in a free kick from 30 yards out, with her set piece finding the top left corner of the goal to give Panama a shock 1-0 lead over European powerhouse France after just 69 seconds, per the Associated Press.

What made the goal even more special was the team’s celebration afterwards.

2. Sam Kerr vs. England

Kerr finally made her first start for Australia in this year’s World Cup in the semi-final match against England. She made up for lost time, netting a stunning equaliser in the second half.

The 29-year-old drilled a long-range effort, with her attempt creeping just under the crossbar to tie the match at 1-1. Australia ended up losing the contest 3-1, but Kerr’s wonder goal will live long in the memory.

3. Linda Caicedo vs Germany

Caicedo starred for Colombia in this year’s Women’s World Cup, leading her country to the quarter-finals. The teen phenom also scored one of the goals of the tournament in the match against Germany.

She weaved between two German defenders in the box before curling the ball into the top right corner to give Colombia a shock 1-0 lead.

4. Mina Tanaka vs. Spain

The only game that Spain lost in this competition was against Japan, with Nadeshiko recording a 4-0 win against the eventual World Cup champs.

Tanaka scored a great goal in that contest. She dribbled her way into the box before executing a brilliant step-over to create some space away from her defender. She then curled a left-footed shot into the top corner to complete the rout for Japan.

5. Bia Zaneratto vs. Panama

Brazil managed to thrill before they crashed out of the tournament with a shocking early exit in the group stage.

They scored a superb team goal in the 4-0 win over Panama in Adelaide, with Zaneratto finishing off the South Americans’ slick passage of play.

6. Aitana Bonmati vs. Switzerland

Bonmati had a fantastic tournament for Spain, winning the Golden Ball in addition to their World Cup triumph. She also scored one of the goals of the tournament in their win against Switzerland.

She managed to fake out five defenders at once before coolly hitting the shot with her left foot to make it 3-1 for La Roja in the 36th minute, per The Guardian.

7. Lauren James vs. China

James put on a dazzling display against China in the group stage, scoring twice and producing three assists in the 6-1 rout.

The Chelsea star's second goal was simply sensational, steering Jess Carter’s cross from deep with a side-foot volley into the net.

8. Sophia Braun vs. South Africa

Braun gave Argentina the spark they needed in the game against South Africa, scoring one of the goals of the tournament with her side trailing 2-0 at that stage.

She blasted a long-range effort into the top right corner to score Argentina’s first goal of the 2023 Women’s World Cup. What made the goal even more incredible was her first touch, which helped set up the fantastic strike.

9. Esmee Brugts vs. Vietnam

Brugts showed her goal-scoring prowess in the match against Vietnam, netting a pair of long-range strikes in the Netherlands’ 7-0 win.

Her second goal against the Southeast Asian nation deserves special mention, curling her strike into the top right corner after pouncing on a loose ball in the final third. Brugts’ attempt was a bazooka, with her goal measured to have a top speed of 104 kilometres per hour.

10. Olga Carmona vs. England

Carmona’s goal against England will forever be remembered as the strike that gave Spain their first-ever World Cup.

The Real Madrid left-back blasted a shot into the bottom left corner with her first touch after running half the pitch to get herself in that position.

Spain make World Cup history

Sports Brief also reported on Spain making World Cup history after beating England in the final.

La Roja are world champions at the under-17, U20, and senior levels after their win in Australia.

Spain also joined Germany in the list of countries to have won the women's and men's editions.
