- Martin Odegaard took to social media to praise his teammates after their win
- The Gunners captain sealed the victory with a penalty in the second half
Martin Odegaard praised his teammates after Arsenal recorded a much-needed win over Crystal Palace on Monday night.
The Gunners captain took to social media to deliver the message, writing: “Big win, big team performance.”
He also posted a picture of the team celebrating in the dressing room after the victory.
He was seen holding the No. 12 shirt of injured teammate Jurrien Timber as Arsenal’s players and coaching staff took a picture together.
Timber sustained an ACL injury during his Premier League debut against Nottingham Forest, per ESPN.
Odegaard seals win with penalty
Odegaard was instrumental in Arsenal taking all three points, as it was his penalty that proved to be the difference in the Premier League showdown.
Arsenal earned the spot kick after Sam Johnstone fouled Eddie Nketiah inside the box.
Odegaard made no mistake with his penalty, sending the Crystal Palace goalkeeper the wrong way to hand Arsenal a lead they would not relinquish.
The Gunners had to work hard for their victory as they played the majority of the second half with just 10 men after Takehiro Tomiyasu received two yellow cards in a span of just seven minutes in the second half, per The Guardian.
Arteta praises Arsenal after win
Mikel Arteta also praised his side’s resolve in an interview after the match, saying:
“I love to win like this, even at 10 man we didn’t conceded. We responded, we never gave up. We adapted to the sending off and won the right to win game by the way we played.”
It’s still early days in the 2023/24 Premier League season, but this was a great statement win by Arsenal.
