Ligue 1 fans appear to be dissatisfied with the judgements meted out to the sexual assault cases involving defenders Benjamin Mendy, Hakimi Achraf and Monaco’s Wissam Ben Yedder.
Ahead of French club, Lorient’s opening fixture against OGC Nice, a section of the home fans made known their displeasure with the club after it completed the transfer of Mendy from Manchester City following his acquittal of a two-year-long sexual assault saga.
The 29-year-old, who is currently facing a spell on the sidelines, was greeted by an unidentified section of the home fans with a banner highlighting his recent ordeal.
Fans display banners against Mendy
According to reports from French outlet Le Télégramme, banners were displayed on Lorient’s Grand Théâtre steps near Les Merlus‘ Stade du Moustoir.
“What is the justice system doing? B. Mendy, A. Hakimi, W. Ben Yedder. No forgetting. No forgiveness, " read the banner.
Mendy was last month cleared of all charges of sexual crimes by the Chester Crown Court. A few days after the verdict, he sealed his return to Ligue 1 by signing a two-year deal with FC Lorient.
PSG’s Hakimi was accused of sexual offence by a 24-year-old woman last February and, as reported by Marca, had to testify in court, which has since granted him bail but under police supervision.
Monaco’s striker Ben Yedder, was earlier this month charged with sexual assault and related offences.
The 33-year-old has since been placed under judicial supervision and had to pay bail of €900 000 on the day the new Ligue 1 season kicked off.

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that former Manchester City defender Benjamin Mendy was today cleared of all charges of assault and declared not guilty after nearly three years since a 24-year-old woman first accused him.
Journalists outside the Chester Crown Court approached him, but Mendy responded with just a word and waved off other questions as he fought back his tears.
"Alhamdulillah," he said.
