The Buccaneers’ goalkeeper was involved in a traumatic incident in February 2022 when he was hijacked in Soweto.

As noted by IOL, Buthelezi and his brother were hijacked after they visited their mother in Soweto. They were cornered by hijackers, and both stabbed. They were then rushed to hospital.

Reflecting back on the incident, Buthelezi admitted that it derailed him slightly when he was performing so well at that time.

Buthelezi was a TS Galaxy player at the time of the incident and was yet to concede a goal for the club, iDiski Times noted. At the time, he was earning high praise for his performances for The Rockets.

“It derailed me a lot because I think I had just gotten a chance to play. I think I had played three, no, four games, actually. It was three games in the league and one in the Nedbank Cup but after that, I got hijacked,” he said.

Buthelezi added that it had disturbed him because he was forced out of action while performing so well, but it didn’t affect him mentally.

As reported by Transfermarkt, Buthelezi played 34 games for Galaxy, and kept 18 clean sheets in the process. His performances caught the eye of Orlando Pirates who signed him during the recent transfer window. He has yet to make an appearance for the Buccaneers.
