FootballMichael Olise: Rival Fans Label Chelsea 'Small Club' After Winger Makes Transfer U-Turn
- Chelsea have been dealt a transfer blow after Michael Olise signed a new deal with Crystal Palace
- The new twist in the saga came amid reports the Blues had triggered the winger’s release clause
- Palace chairman Steve Parish confirmed on Thursday that Olise would be staying with the Eagles
Rival fans took to social media to poke fun at Chelsea after their failed attempt to acquire 21-year-old winger, Michael Olise.
The English-born star pulled a fast one by agreeing to a new four-year deal with Crystal Palace when it seemed like the Blues would acquire his services.
Olise, who grew up in Chelsea’s youth system before leaving at the age of 14, joined Palace from Reading in 2021.
Earlier in the week, it was widely reported that Chelsea had triggered his £35 million release clause, which angered the Palace hierarchy, according to The Guardian.
This U-turn in the transfer saga will be a huge relief to Crystal Palace fans, especially after losing Wilfried Zaha, who recently joined Galatasaray in Turkey's Super Lig.
Speaking on Olise's new deal, Palace boss, Roy Hodgson said, per the BBC:
"We have been concerned. One is concerned if a club the size of Chelsea's stature start to take an interest in a player and suggests that a move to their club might be the best bet. I have always hoped that wouldn't be the case and that Michael would realise that at such a young age his future here is very bright and we can help him move very quickly to another level."
Fans troll Chelsea over Olise deal
On social media, rival fans were quick to taunt Chelsea for their failed bid with some hilarious banter:

At the moment, Olise is recovering from a hamstring injury.
