Cole Palmer’s future with Manchester City remains uncertain despite him being the hero in their UEFA Super Cup win over Sevilla on Wednesday night.
Manager Pep Guardiola said in an interview after City’s penalty shootout victory that the 21-year-old winger could be sold despite his fine finish against the reigning UEFA Europa League champs.
Palmer has been in fine form for City at the start of the season, making a strong case to be part of their first-team lineup this campaign.
Palmer stars in Super Cup
Palmer scored in the Community Shield loss to Arsenal before netting the equalising goal against Sevilla, per The Guardian.
He scored after 63 minutes with a perfectly placed header, appearing to give Guardiola another reason to use him more this season.
Despite his strong performances for City, the youngster has been the subject of transfer speculation, with West Ham and Brighton among the clubs reportedly interested in signing him this summer.
No loan move for Palmer
Guardiola confirmed after the Super Cup that Palmer’s future remains up in the air despite his excellent play of late.
The Manchester City boss made it clear that a loan deal for Palmer was out of the question, saying:
“The opinion I had when he arrived is he wanted to leave, but now I don't know what's going to happen. I don't think a loan is going to happen. He's going to stay or going to sell, but I think a loan is not going to happen.”
Manchester City keeping Palmer for this season is a likely scenario, though, as the Premier League champions have lost several key players already, per the BBC.

De Bruyne suffers hamstring injury
It didn’t help matters for Guardiola that Kevin de Bruyne suffered a hamstring injury in their Premier League opener against Burnley.
He played just 22 minutes before being subbed off.
Sports Brief reported that he could be out for three to four months if he requires surgery on his injured hamstring.
