  • Arsenal's new boy Jurrien Timber is set to miss the entire season
  • Timber pulled up with an injury after a yellow-card tackle on Brennan Johnson on Saturday, August 12
  • The latest update indicates he sustained an anterior cruciate ligament injury

Jurrien Timber has confirmed he will not be in the Arsenal squad for a lengthy period of time as his knee injury is “worse than initially feared”.

Timber was part of Mikel Arteta’s starting XI for their opening game against Nottingham Forest on Monday, but his game took a turn for the worse towards the end of the first half as he suffered an injury after making a tackle on Brennan Johnson.

After lengthy treatment on the pitch, Timber tried to play on but his knee gave out moments later.

Since then, Arsenal have released a statement confirming the extent of the injury, which will likely keep the defender out for months.

"Further to detailed assessments with consultant specialists since Saturday, we can confirm that Jurrien Timber has sustained an injury to his anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee." A club statement read, per Sunsport.

Timber, who signed for Arsenal in a £40million deal, is now set to undergo surgery in the coming days.

Timber’s reaction

Taking to Instagram after his lengthy layoff was confirmed, Timber reiterated the fans’ worst fears by confirming he would be supporting the team from the sidelines in the coming months.

"Gutted to share my injury is more serious than expected, especially after the warm welcome I've received.” He wrote on Instagram.
"I wanted to repay you on the pitch, which will not be possible for the forthcoming period.”
"For now I’ll be supporting our team from the stands of course.

What next for Arsenal?

Timber’s injury leaves Mikel Arteta in a dilemma, as the new signing was expected to be a consistent figure in the Arsenal team.

For now, Arteta will have to decide whether he wants to gamble with Oleksandr Zinchenko, who has also been struggling with injuries, particularly to his calf.

Kane makes bold UCL statement

Sports Brief also reported on Harry Kane’s recent sentiments about the Champions League.

Kane has at last bid farewell to Tottenham Hotspur, aiming to embellish his illustrious career with some silverware.

After missing out on the Super Cup victory, the 30-year-old expressed that his move to the Bundesliga champions was motivated by a desire to bolster his chances of triumphing in Europe's premier club competition.
