FootballPiers Morgan Trolls Australians As England Beat Matildas in World Cup Semi Final
- Piers Morgan is ecstatic that Australia were knocked out of the Women's World Cup by England
- The Three Lionesses beat the Matildas 3-1 to book their place in the finals of the tournament
- Morgand believes that England's win was revenge for Jonny Bairstow's controversial dismissal
England are through to the finals of the FIFA Women's World Cup, and Piers Morgan couldn't be happier about it.
British broadcaster Morgan took to X, formerly Twitter, to celebrate the team's historic win.
Sharing a photo of Alessia Russo celebrating the Three Lionesses' third goal and one of Jonny Bairstow during the 2023 Ashes tournament, Morgan said that the win was revenge for the cricket.
Australia retained the Ashes after the series was tied 2-2, but the most significant talking point of the series came in the second test when Bairstow was run out.
As noted by SportBible, the English keeper was given out controversially after he left his crease, believing that the over had been called.
Australia wicketkeeper Alex Carey then threw the ball at the stumps, and a confused Bairstow was given his marching orders.
The moment caused a lot of controversy during the series, and the Australians were accused of being unsporting. The decision struck a chord with Morgan, particularly, as he took to social media to voice his frustration over the incident.
"You cannot be serious??!! Australia, that is pathetic. How can you possibly want to win an Ashes Test match like that?" he said at the time.
With the Three Lionesses getting a hard-fought win over the host nation, Morgan feels as if justice has been served.
