Arsenal summer signing Jurrien Timber could reportedly be sidelined for several months after he picked up an injury on his Premier League debut for the Gunners.

Timber sealed a £40million summer move to the Emirates from Ajax, becoming the latest addition to Mikel Arteta's squad.

The defender took part in Arsenal's pre-season campaign, with Arteta wasting no time handing him his Premier League bow against Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

However, the Dutchman could not see out the rest of the match after he picked up an injury and had to be subbed off with a suspected knee issue.

Timber has since been undergoing various tests and scans as medics look to gauge the extent of the damage.

How long is Timber out?

According to The Mirror, Arsenal are likely to be without Timber for months after the defender sustained what appears to be knee ligament damage.

While the Gunners are yet to reveal the extent of the injury, a statement by the club suggested the Dutchman might have sustained a serious injury.

"Further to his substitution during our match against Nottingham Forest on Saturday, Jurrien Timber has received extensive assessments and scans which have confirmed he has sustained an injury to his right knee," the statement said.
"Jurrien will undergo a further detailed assessment and review with a consultant in the coming days to assess the full extent of the injury, in order to determine the next steps. A further update will be provided in due course. Everyone at the club will be focused on supporting Jurrien at this time," the club added.

Timber hobbles off

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Arsenal fans have been sent into a panic after new signing Jurrien Timber hobbled off with an injury on his Premier League debut against Nottingham Forest on Saturday, August 12.

Timber is among four major signings the Gunners made this summer in a bid to challenge Manchester City for the crown this season.

The Dutchman had initially been linked with a move to Old Trafford, only for him to link up with Mikel Arteta at the Emirates Stadium.
