Real Madrid has gotten into a squabble with La Liga after the first matchday of the 2023/24 season, following the Spanish club’s decision to stay away from their television commitments.

The Spanish league body has implemented new guidelines for the new season, requiring each club to be present for a flash interview at half-time during live games, after sealing a partnership with EA Sports.

However, according to Football Espana, Real Madrid failed to comply with the new La Liga TV guidelines at San Mames during their 2-0 victory against Athletico Bilbao on Saturday, with no player present for the half-time interview.

Carlo Ancelotti also failed to attend his post-match flash interview and no player was present in the mixed zone, as mandated by the Spanish league's commercial coverage.

La Liga is now set to penalise Los Blancos for skipping their television commitments in the first matchday of the season, with a ruling from the league body expected soon.

Madrid loses court battle with La Liga

La Liga also emerged victorious in a legal battle with Real Madrid after the reigning Spanish champions challenged the league body’s authority to commercialise broadcast rights, Sport Business reports.

Los Blancos filed a series of lawsuits against the country's top flight league over a deal allowing a private equity company to acquire a 10 percent share of future La Liga television rights.

Around €130 million will reportedly be on offer to La Liga and Segunda clubs, with different amounts being dealt out depending on the quality of coverage and access each club allows.

Madrid beat Bilbao in opener

Earlier, Sports Brief reported on Jude Bellingham scoring on his debut for Real Madrid in their 2-0 win at Athletic Bilbao on Saturday in their opening La Liga match.

Despite concerns at both ends of the pitch, Carlo Ancelotti's side earned a convincing victory at San Mames to kick off their title bid, with Rodrygo opening the scoring.

Real Madrid, who lost the iconic Karim Benzema to big-money Saudi football in the summer, are still heavily linked with Paris Saint-Germain forward, Kylian Mbappe.
