Joshua Kimmich defends Sadio Mane after forward's struggles at Bayern Munich
FootballWhy Manchester United Signed Rasmus Hojlund Instead of Harry Kane: Red Devils' Reasons Revealed
- Bayern Munich completed the signing of Harry Kane from Tottenham on Saturday
- Fans are asking why Manchester United opted to sign Rasmus Hojlund instead
- United reportedly did not want to get involved in a bidding war for Kane’s services
The Harry Kane transfer saga is finally over.
The former Tottenham Hotspur will now ply his trade in Germany after signing a blockbuster deal with Bayern Munich.
Now that the switch has been made official, some Manchester United fans wonder why the club didn’t sign the England international and chose Rasmus Hojlund to bolster their attack.
Why United refused Kane move
According to The Athletic, there are two reasons why the Red Devils opted not to make a move for the star striker.
Manchester United reportedly were not interested in getting 'lured into a battle they didn't think they could win'.
The Red Devils believed that if they got involved in the bidding process, Kane’s preference would still be to join Bayern Munich as ‘there's no guarantee that Erik ten Hag's men were ready to compete for the biggest trophies'.
Another reason why United were forced to turn to other striking options is that they reportedly believed Kane was after a contract worth £30 million per year.
Manchester United decided not to risk moving for Kane and signed Hojlund instead from Atalanta.
They paid the Serie A side £72 million to land the Danish star.
It remains to be seen whether that gamble will pay off for the English giants.
Comparing Hojlund and Kane's numbers
Hojlund’s United career is off to a worrying start, with the 20-year-old reportedly missing the first few weeks of the new Premier League season due to a back injury, per Talksport.
Hojlund rose to prominence during his time in Italy, scoring nine goals in 32 appearances for Atalanta in Serie A last season.
Harry Kane: Bayern Munich Far From Meeting Tottenham’s Valuation of England Striker
FootballThat pales in comparison, however, to the numbers Kane put up in North London.
He scored a club-record 280 goals in 435 appearances for Tottenham, 45 of which came in Europe. He scored 213 goals in the Premier League, winning the Golden Boot award three times in the English top flight.
