According to Daily Express, the Belgian gave out custom-made iPhones to the 24-man squad that won the treble last season and manager Pep Guardiola and owner Sheikh Mansour. He made the special gesture during a get-together ahead of their season opener against Burnley.
The iPhone 14 had each person's name and the club's logo engraved at the back, and each Costa £5,000, meaning the captain spent £130,000 on the project, a portion of his £400,000 per week salary.
Sun Sport noted that he was inspired by Lionel Messi, who gave gold-plated iPhones to his Argentina teammates after the 2022 FIFA World Cup triumph in Qatar.
De Bruyne injured against Burnley
The Belgian spent 23 minutes at the Turf Moor pitch before going down with what looked like a hamstring injury, and he was replaced by summer signing from Chelsea, Mateo Kovacic.
KDB walked out of last season's UEFA Champions League final against Inter Milan, having also done the same against Chelsea in 2021. He returned ahead of schedule to start the season.
