  • The Blues must match the Reds' British-record bid to sign Caicedo

Moises Caicedo won’t be joining Liverpool anytime soon.

The Ecuadorian midfielder has reportedly rejected a move to the Merseyside club despite Brighton and Hove Albion accepting a British record fee of £111 million from the Reds.

The 21-year-old has informed Jurgen Klopp’s side that he will only join Chelsea this summer in another twist to this gripping transfer saga.

According to Fabrizio Romano, 'Caicedo has decided to keep his word' and only accept a move to the Blues as he has already agreed on personal terms with them since the end of May.

Caicedo's Blues move still alive

That is a welcome development for Chelsea, who are set to bid again to get a deal done with Brighton.

The Reds shocked fans everywhere when they reached an agreement with Brighton to sign Caicedo. They hijacked the Blues’ attempt to land the midfielder, outbidding their offer for the Ecuador international, per The Guardian.

With Caicedo refusing to join Liverpool, Chelsea now have an opportunity to do their own hijacking and land their top transfer target once and for all.

Brighton have made it clear to Chelsea they will not accept any offer below the £111mil bid Liverpool submitted.

The ball now is in the Blues' court and whether they will break the British transfer record once again with the Caicedo signing. They spent a British-record £107mil to sign Enzo Fernandez last January.

Caicedo follows Chelsea on Instagram

Romano also reported that Caicedo has started to follow Chelsea on Instagram, adding more momentum to his move to the Blues.

Chelsea manager, Mauricio Pochettino, also released a statement regarding the Caicedo transfer saga, saying:

“I never talk about players that don't belong to us. I am respectful. We are working really hard to try and add more players to the squad; we want to add quality.”

Nkunku injury blow for Chelsea

In related news, the Blues want to bolster their lineup after Christopher Nkunku suffered a knee injury.

Sports Brief reported that the Frenchman injured his knee during a friendly against Borussia Dortmund.

Nkunku has reportedly been ruled out for an extended period after undergoing surgery on his hurt knee.
