Messi's Leagues Cup stint
Messi’s professional career in the United States is off to a fiery start. He has scored seven goals in his first four matches for Inter Miami.
He opened his account in the Leagues Cup match against Cruz Azul, scoring a free kick in the 94th minute to give Inter Miami a dramatic 2-1 victory on his debut, per ESPN.
The Argentine star picked up right where he left off when he made his first start for the Herons in their Leagues Cup showdown against Atlanta United on July 25.
He gave Inter Miami an early 1-0 lead in the eighth minute, converting an easy tap-in after his initial shot attempt struck the post.
The 36-year-old doubled his tally 14 minutes later, diverting Robert Taylor’s cross into the back of the net with his weaker right foot.
He returned the favor to Taylor in the 53rd minute, teeing him up for his first career assist in the U.S.
Messi continued his red-hot form in the round of 32 against Orlando City, scoring a pair of close-range volleys in Inter Miami’s 3-1 victory.
He opened the scoring in the seventh minute after receiving a beautiful chipped pass from Taylor.
He scored his second goal of the night in the 72nd minute, firing another volley past Orlando City goalkeeper Pedro Gallese to make it 3-1 for Inter Miami.

FootballMessi scored another brace in Inter Miami’s win over FC Dallas in the round of 16.
He scored yet another early goal for the Herons, firing a long-range strike in the sixth minute that was allowed after a VAR review.
Inter Miami looked to be on their way out of the competition after FC Dallas built a 4-2 lead late in the second half.
Messi had other ideas, though, helping Inter Miami score two goals in the final 10 minutes.
Messi’s cross into the box in the 80th minute was diverted into the back of the net by FC Dallas’ Marco Farfan for an own goal.
The former Barcelona star then made it 4-4 in the 85th minute, curling in a free kick into the top corner for a stunning equalizer.
Inter Miami went on to win 5-3 on penalties, with Messi scoring one of the spot kicks.
They will next face Charlotte FC in the quarterfinals.

Ronaldo stepped up big time in the group stage of the 2023 Arab Club Champions Cup.
He scored in the 74th minute of their match against Union Monastirienne to give Al-Nassr a 2-1 lead.
The Saudi club would eventually win the contest 4-1 to move into second place in the Group C table ahead of their final match against Zamalek.
Al-Nassr were in danger of crashing out of the tournament, however, as they trailed Zamalek 1-0 heading into the final minutes of the contest.
Ronaldo came to Al-Nassr’s rescue, scoring a header in the 87th minute to send them through to the knockout stage.
The Portuguese star continued his red-hot form in the quarterfinals against Raja CA. He opened the scoring in the 19th minute, leading Al-Nassr to a 3-1 victory.
The 38-year-old was the hero once again in the semifinals against Al-Shorta, scoring the winning goal in the 75th minute via a penalty kick, per Sports Illustrated.
