- De Gea is currently a free agent after leaving Manchester United this summer
David de Gea could be on his way to Spanish giants Real Madrid just a few weeks after leaving English Premier League giants Manchester United.
Real Madrid have confirmed that first-choice goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois has suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury that will require him to undergo surgery.
According to Goal, the injury to Courtois could mean that the Belgian goalkeeper could be unavailable for the rest of the season, so a search for his replacement has begun.
Los Blancos are now considering a move for ex-Manchester United goalie, David de Gea, who is a free agent following his departure from the Red Devils this summer, and could offer him a one-year contract.
De Gea joined Man United from Atletico Madrid for around €22 million in 2011 and helped the club win eight trophies, including the Premier League title and the UEFA Europa League, during his 11-year spell at Old Trafford.
Ferdinand gives De Gea opinion
Meanwhile, Rio Ferdinand has admitted that Manchester United will miss David de Gea's services this season after letting the Spanish goalkeeper leave after 11 years, Sportskeeda reports.
De Gea has been replaced by former Ajax and Inter Milan goalkeeper, Andre Onana at Old Trafford, with Erik ten Hag not too convinced of the Spaniard’s abilities heading into the 2023/24 season.
Onana is viewed as an ideal No. 1 for the Dutch manager due to his ball-playing ability. Many others also regard the Cameroonian goalkeeper as an upgrade on de Gea.
