FootballBarcelona Currently Have 13 Players Registered Ahead of New La Liga Season
- Barcelona have registered just 13 players ahead of the new La Liga season
- New signings like Ilkay Gundogan and players who signed new deals have not been registered
- The club's financial woes are not over, and they've not made a statement signing this summer
The 2023/24 La Liga season starts this coming weekend. Barcelona are looking to defend the title they won last season, but their current predicament could affect a potentially strong start.
The club had a chaotic pre-season in the USA, and their only high-profile signing Ilkay Gundogan could leave before the new season kicks off.
The Blaugrana currently have 13 first-team players registered for the new season, including Ousmane Dembele and Franck Kessie, who are close to leaving the club.
Other registered players are Marc-Andre Ter Stegen, Jules Kounde, Eric Garcia, Andreas Christensen, Pedri, Gavi, Frenkie De Jong, Ferran Torres, Ansu Fati, Raphinha, and Robert Lewandowski.
According to Barca Universal, new signings like Gundogan, Oriol Romeu, Inigo Martinez, and players who inked new deals are yet to be registered with La Liga.
The club are yet to sign top players this summer due to their financial woes, but the imminent sale of Dembele and Kessie should bring in some much-needed funds to strengthen the squad.
Can Gundogan leave for free?
Multiple reports indicate that if the club has not registered the German midfielder before the start of the new La Liga season, he can leave for nothing.
The 32-year-old veteran signed for Barça earlier this summer, arriving as a free agent after his contract with Manchester City had expired. He helped the English club win a historic treble.
Barcelona had the exact problems last season that were resolved before the new season. However, the club is reportedly confident of registering their entire squad before the match against Getafe on the 13th of August, per Football Espana.

FootballDembele clashes with Barcelona teammates
Sports Brief earlier reported on Dembele clashing with his Barcelona teammates at Camp Nou as the Frenchman's exit to his home country nears.
A potential move to Paris Saint-Germain has been extensively discussed, with both Barca and the 26-year-old now in the final stages of finalizing an agreement.
It was reported Robert Lewandowski was unable to establish any off-pitch connection with the French winger, restricting any interactions to the field only.
