  • Jose Mourinho has admitted he has no regrets about staying at AS Roma for the final year of his contract
  • The Portuguese tactician confirmed he received offers from Saudi Arabia but turned them down
  • He will hope to help Roma do better than last season when they lost the Europa League final

Jose Mourinho is not closing the door on future opportunities elsewhere after choosing to stay and fulfil the final year of his AS Roma contract despite offers elsewhere.

Mourinho's time at Roma has not been straightforward like his previous clubs, having to work with a limited budget and rely on players giving it all on the pitch.

He ended the club's 14-year trophy drought in his first year by winning the inaugural UEFA Europa Conference League and also reached the Europa League final in the second year.

It is difficult to build on the progress of the first two years as the club is financially handicapped and was recently fined £4.3m by UEFA after failing to meet the capital gains target by June 30, as reported by Roma Press.

Mourinho opens door to exit

The Special One received offers from around Europe and Saudi Arabia at the end of last season, and it looked like his association with the capital club was ending, but he chose to stay.

Speaking exclusively to Corriere dello Sport, he confirmed he rejected offers from two big clubs in Saudi Arabia but is not ruling out a future move.

"Al-Hilal and Al-Ahli," he confirmed. "I informed the club, clarifying that I had no intention of accepting."
“It's not final, it's not," he added.

He stated that his reason for not accepting was down to two reasons - his promise to the players after the defeat in Budapest and his gesture to the fans after the final game against Spezia.

Mourinho's message to Roma board

Sports Brief reported on Mourinho's cheeky message to Roma board over the club's activity in the transfer market in search of a new striker after a long injury to Tammy Abraham.

The Englishman and strike partner Andrea Belotti had a poor campaign last summer in front of goal, and the team had to rely on Paulo Dybala, who struggled for fitness throughout the season.
