It was a stunning goal by Messi, who scored his second goal of the night and his seventh in the Leagues Cup.

He opened the scoring in the sixth minute with a long-range strike against FC Dallas.

The 36-year-old hit Jordi Alba’s pass with a first-time shot, firing a long-range scorcher past the FC Dallas goalkeeper to give Inter Miami a 1-0 lead.

The seven-time Ballon d'Or winner's goal was initially disallowed but made official later after a review.

Josef Martinez was in an offside position when Messi kicked his shot attempt, but officials ruled he stayed out of the goalie's line of vision.

FC Dallas battle back

FC Dallas battled back after that early Messi strike, scoring three unanswered goals to build a 3-1 lead just after the hour mark, per USA Today.

They traded goals after that to make it 4-2 for FC Dallas heading into the final 10 minutes of regulation.

Messi inspires late comeback

Just when it seemed Messi's run in the Leagues Cup would end in disappointment, the Argentine star stepped up and inspired Inter Miami's late comeback.

Marco Farfan scored an own goal off Messi's free kick in the 80th minute. Messi equalized five minutes later with a stunning freekick to send the game into a penalty shootout.

Inter Miami completed the comeback with a 5-3 victory in the shootout, with Messi scoring one of the spot kicks.

Messi mania hits Dallas

Sports Brief also reported on fans swarming Toyota Stadium in Texas ahead of Messi's arrival to catch a glimpse of the former Barcelona star.

This was the first opportunity for football fans to catch the sports icon in action outside of Florida as his first three Leagues Cup matches came at DRV PNK Stadium in Miami.

Messi was unstoppable during that stretch, scoring a total of five goals in their games against Cruz Azul, Atlanta United, and Orlando City SC.
