  • Real Madrid have responded to rumours Florentino Perez will step down as president
  • Perez has been president of Real Madrid since 2009 when he returned unopposed
  • Real Madrid has lifted six La Liga titles and six Champions Leagues under Perez

Real Madrid has strongly denied club president Florentino Perez is set to resign from his position at the club following rumours circulating in the Spanish media.

Perez first assumed the Real Madrid presidency in 2000 and was re-elected in 2004, only to withdraw from the position two years later due to concerns about his focus on business.

The 76-year-old would return to the Spanish giants unopposed in the summer of 2009 and has held that position ever since.

According to Goal, Real Madrid released a statement in response to the rumours, claiming that the stories circulating about Perez were false and are due to certain interests that have nothing to do with reality.

With Perez in charge, Madrid has won six La Liga championships and six Champions Leagues, continuing to rank among the best in Europe thanks to Perez's hefty expenditure.

Ancelotti upset with Florentino Perez

Meanwhile, Carlo Ancelotti appears to be upset with Real Madrid president Florentino Perez following the club’s failure to replace former captain Karim Benzema, Football Espana reports.

With just a week to the start of the 2023/24 season, Los Blancos are yet to find a suitable replacement for the French forward who joined Al Ittihad this summer.

It's possible that Kylian Mbappe from Paris Saint-Germain will be acquired in order to address this situation, although Ancelotti would rather Real Madrid get Harry Kane from Tottenham Hotspur.

Best Galactico signings by Florentino Perez

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that under Florentino Perez's reign as president of Real Madrid across two spells, the Spanish giants signed the biggest names in the sport, ushering in the 'Galactico' era.

Perez has spent a staggering amount of money on players who have brought unprecedented success on and off the pitch.

The club has been heavily linked with Paris Saint-Germain forward - and probably the best player in the world currently - Kylian Mbappe and it is reportedly only a matter of time before he signs for Los Blancos.
