FootballJoao Cancelo move to Barcelona in danger as Saudi club look to hijack deal
- Barcelona could miss out on a chance to sign Manchester City defender Joao Cancelo
- Saudi clubs are set to hijack the deal despite Barca already agreeing on personal terms
- Cancelo returned to Man City after his loan spell at Bayern Munich last season
Barcelona’s bid to sign Manchester City defender Joao Cancelo is in danger just days after the Catalan club agreed personal terms with the Portugal international.
The Catalan club’s main goal is to reinforce the right-back position by bringing Cancelo to Camp Nou this season, as Xavi is a keen admirer of the Man City defender.
According to Goal, Sadi teams are now ready to hijack the deal for Cancelo from Barcelona as the Catalan club’s negotiations with Manchester City for the right-back have fizzled out in recent days.
Previously Saudi clubs have been approached for a deal for the 29-year-old defender, especially Al Hilal who have made a concrete offer to the Manchester City defender.
Cancelo joined Manchester City in 2019, but the Portugal defender has fallen out with manager Pep Guardiola who is determined to ship the 29-year-old out of the English club.
Barcelona explore other defensive options
Barcelona are already considering a move for Tottenham defender Juan Foyth as a deal for Manchester City defender Joao Cancelo is proving too costly, The Sun reports.
The La Liga champions had wanted to sign the Manchester City star to strengthen the right-back spot, but negotiations for the Portugal international have suffered a major twist.
It is then put forward that Foyth, who joined Tottenham on loan from Spanish side Villareal, would be the alternative to Cancelo and that he is also manager Xavi's "preference" between the two.
Cancelo agrees terms with Barcelona
Earlier, Sports Brief reported Barcelona could finally get their wish to sign Joao Cancelo after the Manchester City defender agreed to personal terms with the Catalan club ahead of a summer transfer.
Bayern Munich in line to sign Liverpool Saudi linked midfielder
FootballThe Catalans missed out on the Portugal defender in January after he joined Bayern Munich on loan, despite the Spanish giants being favourites to land him mid-season.
Barcelona are looking to use some of the funds generated from Ousmane Dembele’s impending transfer to Paris Saint-Germain to help fund their move for Cancelo.
