The start of the new Premier League season is just a few days away and football pundits are already revealing their predictions for the upcoming campaign.

The former England striker backed Manchester City to win the English top flight title for the fourth consecutive year.

Owen picks EPL top four

Owen tipped City to successfully defend their title again despite losing key players, Ilkay Gundogan and Riyad Mahrez to Barcelona and to Al-Ahli, respectively, per The Mirror.

He mentioned Arsenal as the Citizens’ main rivals for the title, with the Gunners finishing second again for the second straight year.

Arsenal strengthened their squad during the offseason, signing Declan Rice, Kai Havertz, and Jurrien Timber.

Owen picked his former teams, Liverpool and Manchester United, to finish in the top four and round off the Champions League spots.

He tipped Chelsea to improve on their 12th-place showing last season and finish fifth in the 2023-24 campaign under new manager, Mauricio Pochettino.

Among the players who are expected to play key roles for the Blues this coming season are new signings, Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku.

Surprisingly, Owen didn’t pick Saudi-backed Newcastle United to finish in the top six.

He believes Aston Villa will get that place in the league after signing Youri Tielemans, Pau Torres, and Moussa Diaby during the offseason.

Rounding off the top 10 for Owen are Newcastle, Brighton, Tottenham, and Brentford.

Owen names his relegated teams

He also predicted West Ham, Everton, Nottingham Forest, Fulham, Crystal Palace, Burnley, and Bournemouth to finish outside the top 10 but avoid the drop.

According to Owen, the teams that will be relegated in the coming season are Wolverhampton, Sheffield United, and Luton Town.

Arsenal's Jesus suffers knee injury

Sports Brief also reported on Gabriel Jesus missing the start of the 2023-24 Premier League season.

Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta, told reporters the striker underwent surgery to repair his injured knee.

Jesus missed three months of the previous season for the Gunners because of a knee issue as well.
