Riyad Mahrez has departed Manchester City after five trophy-laden years to join Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli. The Algerian was left out of Man City's pre-season tour, a sign that his time in England was coming to an end.
The Saudi club unveiled the 32-year-old with an interesting video posted on social media. It showed Mahrez wearing the club's jersey, with '2027' written on it.
Al-Ahli reportedly paid Man City £30 million for the veteran winger, who is their third high-profile summer signing after ex-Chelsea goalkeeper, Edouard Mendy, and Roberto Firmino, who signed from Liverpool.
Mahrez will have some time to get to know his teammates since their next game is against Al-Hazem on August 11 in the Saudi Pro League. They concluded their pre-season with a 2-1 defeat to Austrian side St. Polten.
Al-Ahli unveil Mahrez
The club announced the acquisition of Mahrez with a 50-second video posted on Twitter. It begins by showing signs of Saint-Denis and the Stade de France before showing the famous Eiffel Tower in Paris. The Algerian began his career in France with AAS Sarcelles before working his way up in French football.
He is expected to form a great relationship up front with Firmino.
Mahrez's Man City career
The Algerian leaves following a historic 2022/23 season in which Manchester City won the treble. He also won the Premier League title four times, two FA Cups, and three Carabao Cups.
He made 236 appearances for Manchester City, scored 78 goals, and provided 59 assists.
"To play for Manchester City has been an honour and privilege," said Mahrez, who will celebrate his 33rd birthday next February. "I came to City to win trophies and enjoy my football and I achieved all that and so much more. I have had five unforgettable years with this football club," he told the club's website.

Sports Brief earlier reported that Mahrez was close to joining Arsenal in 2016.
Recently, the Algeria international reflected on his Premier League tenure and disclosed that he was close to sealing a move to Arsenal shortly after he had won the EPL with Leicester.
According to the treble winner, Arsene Wenger, who was the-then Gunners' boss, was desperate to secure his services, but the Foxes stood in his way.
