- Jane landed awkwardly on her ankle during South Africa's second game in the FIFA Women's World Cup
South Africa will be sweating over the fitness of Refiloe Jane for the rest of the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Banyana Banyana’s captain had to be stretchered off during her side’s game against Argentina, in a must-win game for both sides.
Jane, who captained the side to Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) glory in last year, landed awkwardly on her ankle after a collision in the first half.
The captain stayed down and looked in pain before the referee called for the medical team. After a lengthy treatment on the field, a stretcher was brought on, and she was taken down the tunnel immediately.
Kholosa Biyana then replaced her.
Jane was a stalwart for the African champions during the first game against Sweden, boasting impressive stats despite the team's loss.
Well wishes for Jane
Messages of support have since poured in for the captain, as South Africans hope that Jane makes a speedy recovery and returns for the team's next game against Italy.
