Filipinas celebrate after Bolden goal

Bolden and her Filipina teammates celebrated like crazy as they took a shock 1-0 lead over the hosts in the first half.

Philippines grab historic win

The joy for the Philippines continued after the final whistle sounded as they held on for a famous 1-0 win over New Zealand.

The Football Ferns had several opportunities to draw level with the Philippines, but luck was simply not on their side.

Jacqui Hand thought she had scored the equalizer in the 70th minute but her goal was ruled out for offside by VAR, per the BBC. Hand also had a fantastic opportunity minutes earlier but her shot attempt agonizingly hit the post.

New Zealand nearly salvaged a point in second-half injury time, but substitute Grace Jale's effort was saved by Philippines goalkeeper, Olivia McDaniel.

She stretched far down to her left to record a stunning stop and preserve the Filipinas' historic World Cup win.

It was an important victory for the Filipinas, who kept their dream of reaching the knockout stage of the 2023 Women's World Cup alive, per FIFA.com.

They are now tied with New Zealand in Group A, with both teams having three points apiece.
