  • Neymar has revealed why PSG are yet to win the Champions League
  • The French club paraded a star-studded attack of Messi, Neymar and Mbappe for two seasons
  • PSG's best finish in Europe's premier club competition was a runners-up position in 2020

Neymar has finally lifted the lid on why Paris Saint-Germain failed to glitter in the UEFA Champions League despite parading a star-studded attack.

PSG's formidable trio of Neymar, Lionel Messi, and Kylian Mbappe had all the makings of a dream attack, but their glittering potential failed to materialize on the UEFA Champions League stage.

Despite boasting the most lethal attacking force on paper, the superstar trio couldn't propel PSG beyond the round of 16 during their two seasons together at the Parc des Princes, per Sporting News.

Real Madrid, the competition's most successful club, were the first to kill the Parisian's Champions League dream by orchestrating a stunning comeback to knock PSG out of Europe's premier club competition two seasons ago, while six-time winners Bayern Munich replicated the feat in the following campaign.

Now, Neymar, aged 31, reflects on the obstacles that may have hindered their ascent to break the Champions League glass ceiling

"We had a very strong team. Messi, Mbappé and I are three guys who are the best in the world. We knew it, but unfortunately, we didn't fit in. It wasn't good for us," he told in an interview with YouTuber Casimiro Miguel as quoted by GOAL.
However, he insisted that they wanted to "win everything", but "football is sometimes not the right thing, the fair thing".

Neymar's stance on PSG future

Meanwhile, Neymar has addressed the persistent speculations surrounding his future at Paris Saint-Germain, effectively quashing the rumours of his departure from the French club.

Despite recent reports suggesting potential moves to Chelsea or even a return to Barcelona, the 31-year-old has asserted his commitment to honouring his existing contract, which still has two years remaining.

The Brazilian playmaker has made it clear that his dedication lies with PSG, and he intends to stay with the club for the foreseeable future, Sports Brief reported.

Mbappe disagrees with Neymar

While Neymar blamed ill luck for PSG's bad fortunes in Europe, Kylian Mbappe called out the hierarchy of Paris Saint-Germain for the club's continued Champions League failure, Sports Brief reported.

The Ligue 1 champions most recently crashed out of last season's competition at the last 16 stage after being outclassed by Bayern Munich over two legs.
