Pochettino’s starting XI was filled with young prospects, with the Blues lining up Ian Maatsen, Nicolas Jackson Malo Gusto, Bashir Humphreys, Andrey Santos, Cesare Casadei, Carney Chukwuemeka, and Diego Moreira against Wrexham.

Maatsen and Jackson combine twice

Jackson did all the hard work, going on a solo run towards the box before finding Maatsen, who scored with an easy tap-in.

The Dutchman doubled his tally in the 42nd minute after another beautiful link-up with Jackson.

The duo did a one-two at the edge of the box, with Maatsen firing past the Wrexham goalkeeper with a well-taken shot to the bottom corner.

Nkunku scores in debut

Nkunku, who completed a £52m move from RB Leipzig this month, was introduced by Pochettino at the start of the second half, per Daily Mail.

He impressed in flashes and found the back of the net in the 90th minute.

Nkunku was fed through the middle by Casadei, with the 25-year-old rounding Lainton to score his first goal for Chelsea and the Blues’ fourth of the night.

Nkunku’s strike was part of a late onslaught by the Blues, who scored three goals in the final 14 minutes.

Conor Gallagher scored Chelsea's third goal in the 81st minute and Ben Chilwell made it 5-0 for the Blues with a goal in second-half injury time.

Chelsea's pre-season schedule

The Blues’ pre-season continues with a game against Brighton at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia on July 22.

Chelsea will then move on to play Newcastle United at Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium on July 26 before facing London rivals Fulham at FedEx Field in Landover on July 30.

Their final pre-season game in the United States will take place on August 2, with Chelsea locking horns with Borussia Dortmund at Soldier Field in Chicago.
