Former Super Eagles captain Jay-Jay Okocha has explained that he did not conduct enough research before making his move to Bolton Wanderers in 2002 from French giants Paris Saint-Germain.

Following his performance for Nigeria at the 2002 FIFA World Cup in Korea/Japan, coach Sam Allardyce showed interest in signing Austin Okocha then for Bolton.

Despite Nigeria's failure to qualify for the knockout stages at the 2002 World Cup, Sam Allardyce was still convinced about having Okocha in his squad.

Okocha eventually joined Bolton and established himself as one of the best midfielders in the Premier League.

According to the report on Pulse, Okocha claimed that he should have made enough consultations before moving to Bolton.

“I will say that it’s obvious that I didn’t really do my research before signing for Bolton.
“As a football person, football comes first, not the city, not the lifestyle, but one thing that’s clear is that the training ground was different, the attitude towards the games was different.''

Okocha joins Drogba, Adebayor

Earlier, Sports Brief had reported how former Super Eagles captain Austin Jay-Jay Okocha landed in Ivory Coast alongside other African football legends for the CAF Ordinary General Meeting and the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying draw.

Since he retired from playing football, Okocha has been touring the world for many sporting activities and the former Bolton star was recently tipped to become a Sports Minister in Nigeria.

During his active days on the pitch, Okocha was among the most prominent African footballers, especially his dribbling styles and ways of scoring free kicks.

Former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba is among the legends invited to the events in Ivory Coast.

Elhadji Diouf, Adebayor, Okocha, Alex Song, Wael Gomaa, Njitap, Houssine Kharja, Gyan, Eboue, Ouattara, Bonaventure Kalou, Didier Zokora are the other former African footballers in already in Ivory Coast.
