Dele Alli who plays for Premier League side Everton has finally disclosed what actually went wrong between him and his Nigerian father while growing up, stressing that he felt betrayed by both his parents.

The former Tottenham player was born in England to a Nigerian father and an English mother, but Alli mentioned he didn’t have the best relationships with his mum and dad in a heartbreaking revelation.

The 27-year-old explained the rigours he was made to face when he was young, claiming that he started smoking at the age of seven and was also assaulted by his mum's friend.

According to reports on Soccernet and Sportbible, Alli made it clear that his father offended him when he was young and that he does not want any relationship with him.

Dele Alli speaks about his father

“I had no rules. I didn’t grow up with any rules. My mum drank a lot, and I understand her better now because of what she was going through. My blood dad lived in Africa, and I got sent to him, to stay there for a year, and it was horrible. I didn’t want to be there at all. It was a big culture change, and I didn’t want to be there, and after six months, I got sent back, and I don’t speak to him again.
''My father went missing for a while, and then when I started playing for England he came back, and when I was around eighteen, they went to the press to accuse my adopted family of taking advantage of me and that they want to go through my contracts. I hadn’t spoken to him for years, so I knew that was not my mum’s decision, so I felt so betrayed and let down that I had to cut the relationship with my mum, and for my dad, I don’t want the relationship anyway.''

Events that defined Alli

Earlier, Sports Brief had reported how Dele Alli is the man of the moment after he took the bold step of opening up on the challenges of his childhood and football career over the past four years, which has seen him lose touch with what he loves.

Alli, without a doubt, was one of the best English prospects over the last ten years when he came into the limelight at Tottenham, but it did not take long before things went downhill.
