However, the long wait is soon coming to an end after Messi was pictured touching down in Southern Florida ahead of his move.

A video published by ESPN showed the 35-year-old and his family members departing a plane after arriving in Miami.

The seven-time Ballon d'Or winner is set to be confirmed as an Inter player on Sunday, with his debut expected to be against Mexican team Cruz Azul in the League's Cup.

Messi's imminent arrival comes at a time Inter Miami are enduring a disastrous run of form, with the David Beckham-owned franchise bottom of the MLS Eastern Conference standings with a paltry 18 points from 21 matches.

Earlier, Sports Brief also reported David Beckham daringly got into a crane to help paint a huge mural of Lionel Messi ahead of his unveiling as a new Inter Miami player.

The Major League Soccer (MLS) is preparing itself for the arrival of its biggest-ever signing, with Messi expected to sign on a free transfer after leaving Paris Saint-Germain.

Ahead of the arrival of the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner, murals and graphics of the Argentine have continued to go up in Florida, with legendary midfielder, Beckham, playing a part in the latest one.
