Real Madrid beat arch-rivals Barcelona to the signature of Turkish wonder kid Arda Guler. The Fenerbahce youngster attracted plenty of suitors, but the Los Blancos secured the 18-year-old dubbed the 'Turkish Messi' for 20 million euros and unveiled him last week.

New Barcelona sporting director Deco is unsure how the Blaugrana failed to seal Guler's signing.

The young forward burst onto the scene last season with the Turkish side, and many clubs felt he could be the next big thing. Barcelona went head to head with their bitter rivals, and they even believed they had won the race for his signature.

Club president Joan Laporta reportedly confirmed they were talking to Fenerbahce. Some sources even reported that Barca had reached an "agreement in principle" with the Turkish side. He scored four goals and supplied four assists last season in the Turkish Super Lig, per Transfermarkt.

Deco, who played for the club between 2004 and 2008, met Guler's entourage, but he was stunned when they left Turkey, saying any deal between the two clubs means nothing to them, per SPORT.

While out on lunch, the 45-year-old was asked why Barcelona couldn't complete the deal. His answer was, "I don't know." Deco also reportedly believed he was used to extract money from Real Madrid.

Guler interrupts Perez

During his presentation, Guler awkwardly got up and stage-crashed Florentino Perez's speech during his presentation last week. Guler stood beside Perez as he continued with his speech. The video went viral on social media.

Perez seemed unbothered by Guler awkwardly standing beside him as he concluded his speech. Guests in the room were surprised but understood nonetheless.

During the presentation, Guler was also spotted wiping his mother's tears. It was an emotional moment caught on camera.

Players who snubbed Barca for Madrid

Sports Brief earlier reported on players who snubbed Barcelona for Real Madrid.

Dani Ceballos, David Beckham, Isco, and Marco Asensio are some of the players who preferred to join Madrid over their bitter rivals.

Other top names that preferred Madrid were Karim Benzema, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Mesut Ozil.
