FootballKhama Billiat: Chiefs Claim Player Is Missing, Despite Contract Running Out
- Khama Billiat was a Kaizer Chiefs player for the past five years and made 126 appearances for the Amakhosi
- Chiefs claim that they are trying to negotiate a new contract with Billiat, but he won't answer any of their calls
- Football Manager Bobby Motaung has rubbished claims that Billiat won't renew his contract over pay cut issues
Kaizer Chiefs are not impressed with Khama Billiat at the moment.
The striker, whose contract with the club expired at the end of June, hasn’t been seen at the club since June 29.
The Amakhosi released a statement detailing that Billiat was expected to be part of the pre-season camp but can’t be reached.
“Billiat was last seen at the Kaizer Chiefs village on 29 June and has not answered any of the calls made or messages sent to him by the club.
“The team is currently in camp with all the players, yet Billiat, who is expected to be there with his teammates, failed to show up and is currently nowhere to be found,” the club said.
It was previously rumoured that the Zimbabwean refused to sign a new contract after the club asked him to take a pay cut.
Football manager Bobby Motaung rubbished those reports, saying that they were still negotiating a new deal with the player, IOL noted.
“It's not a salary cut that's being negotiated. A salary cut happens when somebody is earning so much, and the employer cuts his salary,” he said.
“With Khama, there's no salary cut because the negotiations are still about the new contract. How can you cut the salary of a person who doesn't have a contract?”
Billiat has been an Amakhosi player since 2018, after a stint at Mamelodi Sundowns, and has made 126 appearances for the side during that time.
