FootballPapi Zothwane Sacked After Premier Soccer League Team Sells Status
Papi Zothwane has been let go by KwaZulu-Natal outfit Uthongathi FC after the club sold its PSL status
Uthongathi have been bought by Milford FC, and will compete in the Motsepe Foundation Championship
Zothwane spent two stints as manager of Uthongathi and one with newly-promoted Polokwane City
Papi Zothwane is reportedly with a coaching job.
The former Uthongathi FC manager was let go by the side after they agreed to sell their Premier Soccer League status.
As noted by iDiski Times, Uthongathi sold their status to ABC Motsepe League side Milford FC.
Milford will play in the Motsepe Foundation Championship in the 2023/24 season, but still under the Uthongathi FC name, but in their own colours.
As a result of the club now being under the control of new owners, the technical team have also suffered the consequences. Far Post reported that coach Zothwane and the technical team have all been shown the door.
“At the moment, I don’t have a job. My contract ended yesterday, and we were told that the team is no more and we must see where we go. So, I don’t have a job at the moment,” Zothwane said.
Zothwane’s second stint at Uthongathi
The former Mamelodi Sundowns and Golden Arrows star was in his second stint with the KZN side before he was let go.
As noted by Soccer Laduma, Zothwane was in charge of the side for the 2021/22 season before leaving to join Polokwane City.
He surprisingly left the club halfway through the season despite Polokwane City topping the Motsepe Foundation Championship table. He was then announced once again as the manager of Uthongathi.
Papi appointed by Polokwane
It did not take long for former Mamelodi Sundowns star Papi Zothwane to find himself a new home as a coach.
Zothwane will coach Limpopo-based side Polokwane City in the Motsepe Foundation Championship (National First Dvision).
The announcement came barely 21 hours after Uthongathi FC confirmed on all its social media platforms that it had parted ways with the 40-year-old Zothwane, Sports Brief reported.
