  • A UEFA ruling could stop Manchester United from making a bid for Kylian Mbappe
  • Mbappe has been a subject of interest from several clubs including the Red Devils
  • The Frenchman is entering the final year of his contract with Paris Saint-Germain

Manchester United’s outside chance of signing Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe this summer could be extinguished by European football governing body UEFA.

Paris Saint-Germain has threatened to sell the 24-year-old superstar this summer if he refuses to sign a contract extension with Man United, Real Madrid, Arsenal, and Liverpool all credited with an interest in the forward.

According to The Peoples Person, a “bizarre” UEFA ruling could stop the Red Devils from pursuing a deal for Mbappe if Sheikh Jassim’s bid to buy the Premier League club is successful.

If the bid from Qatar fails to differentiate itself as an entity from PSG’s owners, UEFA will veto any deal between the two clubs, thereby preventing Man United from making a bid for Mbappe.

This is because, as per a recent UEFA ruling, two clubs with the same owners cannot act independently, and Sheikh Jassim is rumoured to have a stake in PSG.

Mbappe hands Madrid transfer boost

Meanwhile, Real Madrid are open to the idea of making a move for Kylian Mbappe this summer itself if that is what it takes to bring the Frenchman to the Spanish capital, Fansided reports.

Los Blancos are without a first-choice centre-forward heading into the 2023/24 season, and Mbappe has been identified as the ideal candidate to fill the role left vacant by the departure of Karim Benzema.

Mbappe has informed PSG that he is not interested in extending his deal with the Ligue 1 champions, forcing the club to listen to offers for him this summer.

Mbappe outshines Vinicius and Messi

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Paris Saint-Germain and France forward, Kylian Mbappe, pipped Real Madrid’s Vinicius Junior and Inter Miami’s Lionel Messi to become ESPN’s player of the year.

Mbappe saw off competition from his former teammate and the Brazilian to claim the coveted award.

The ESPN award covers the period from the beginning to the end of the 2022/23 football season, including the 2022 FIFA World Cup, which saw Messi end Argentina's 36-year wait for global glory.
